Singapore, Part 2
Night 1 in Singapore, December 29
Our first night, we went exploring the Orchard Road area with all the shopping. There is pretty much a mall on every corner. At first it was cool to see all the stores and styles here in Singapore but after a while I got fed up with all the crowds. We did find an H&M and of course had to go in to see what styles they carry in this part of the world.
For our first meal, we ate at a really good German restaurant. It’s sounds weird but they have quite a few German restaurants here. And when I realized I could get some sauerkraut, I couldn’t pass it up.
We then went over to the Marian Bay area where we walked around, took some pictures and then decided to go all the way up to the top of the Marina Bay Sands for a drink. The view was amazing!
Last thing of the night was catching the light and water show over the river. That was a little less than what I thought it would be. It was less of a Pink Floyd light show that I was expecting and more of a weird story of a family that ended with the Louis Armstrong song “What A Wonderful World” but sung by kids. It was ok but nothing that I would do again.
Day 2, December 30
We started the day by finding our the train station that was near our hotel so we didn’t have to keep taking cabs everywhere. Most of the train stations called MRTs are located at the bottom level of malls. We were trying to cross the street but at this one intersection you have to use an underground connection to get to the other side and for the life of us, we could not figure out how to get out. We kept going around in circles. It was really frustrating because we were trying to get to food and I was getting real hangry. At that point we didn’t care what we ate.
Our next thing of the day was to get on the hop-on-hop-off tour. I do this in every city I visit where offered. It is such a good way to see the city and learn the history at the same time. It’s also convenient transportation. We rode that around most of the day.
Then it was time to try the famous Singapore Slings at the historic Raffles Hotel. Fun fact, Singapore Slings were created at that very bar.
To end the day we decided we needed some authentic cuisine of the area so we opted for some Ramen and I am proud to report that I successfully used chopsticks.
