Bali, Part 1
Day 5, January 2
We got up at 6am to head to the airport for our flight to Bali. We took the train to the airport which was so easy and cheap but did have a little moment of panic when we thought it was the wrong airport. Turns out Singapore only has one. I have to state again how much I love the Singapore airport. Everything is so nice, efficient and the lines are short. The only thing I don’t like is that instead of going through security right when you get into the airport, you go through it at your individual boarding gate. So that restricts you from taking drinks on to the plane. Other than that, I really enjoy their airport.
Before boarding, I made sure to stop by the duty free store to douse myself, my scarf and jacket in perfume. There were too many bad smells for me in Singapore so I need something that smells good to cover my nose when I come across a not so pleasant smell.
The flight attendants on Air Asia were very nice and not to mention talented. Right before we were about to land one of the male flight attendants serenaded us over the PA speaker with an Ed Sheeran song.
Once we landed, we breezed on through the Bali airport…getting our bags, through customs, etc. It’s a very easy airport to navigate. We were a little early for our driver that would be taking us to our hotel so we just sat and waited it out. It gave me time to properly explore the airport and look at all their statues.
We finally found our little driver amongst a sea of other drivers and set out to our hotel. Our first 2 nights in Bali we will be staying in Ubud. It’s about an hour and half drive from the airport.
Our driver warned us that when we arrived, the streets would be too narrow for the van to drive down so we would have to walk the rest of the way. But once we got to Ubud, our driver let us out and instructed us down the wrong street. So we walked up and down this one street and could not find our hotel. Sweat was streaming down our faces like you wouldn’t believe. It was a challenge to keep walking up and down the street not knowing where to go with our heavy bags and then to top it off, it started to sprinkle. We kept asking people and finally someone told us that we were on the wrong street. They pointed us in the right direction and we were then able to find it.
When we walked in we were blown away by the place. Everything was so lush and tropical looking. Here are some photos of the place. More photos of our actual bungalow will follow later.
After settling in and taking pictures/videos of the place we headed out looking for food. At this point it was close to 6pm and hadn’t eaten anything since like 9am. That’s pretty much how the trip has gone, though. We found this nice little restaurant across the street from our bungalow.
After dinner we walked around the town a little before going back and calling it a night. My first impression of Bali is that everyone is very friendly and willing to help. When they interact with you, it is very intentional and direct with a lot of eye contact and sincerity.
